Obsidian (Lux #1) – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

I loved this book!  I have heard it being tossed about that it resembles Twilight but I have no idea since I have not read them (and never will) but I did notice some symmetry with the movies but I couldn’t care less.  Simply put, it is just a great story.

I love the love/hate relationship going on with “Katy” and “Daemon”.  It is highly entertaining.  Their arguing back and forth can be very witty at times.  “Daemon” is the kind of guy a lot of girls would kill to be the one who breaks through his asshat behavior and become the girl of his dreams.  Who wouldn’t want that.  I thought I would have a hard time with the alien angle but I really don’t, I really really don’t.

The pace of the book was fast (to me) and kept me engaged the entire time.  I didn’t want to put the book down.  I finished it in a day.  Luckily I had borrowed it from the library and checkout books 1-3 all at the same time so I don’t have to wait to continue the story.  It is a little dark, a little humorous, a lot of angst and very passionate (whether it be from actual passion or the heat of arguments).

I can’t see where the story is going, which is a good thing, not being able to guess what’s going to happen.  Just to be clear, that may not mean much seeing as how I have zero talent in being able to guess an ending.  That is a blessing for me seeing as how I NEVER seeing anything coming LOL, it’s always a surprise.

I would recommend this for teens and young adults but beware there is some language.  I curse like a sailor so that didn’t bother me 🙂

I would love to see this come to the big screen…
